Zach & Rebecca

So our last blog post was in Harlem and now, we’re right back with another one from Harlem but at a different venue in the Bead and Breakfast/Restaurant/Wedding Venue that is Red Oak Manor. Before we get into the rest of the day, we got to do Zach and Rebecca’s Engagement Session back around the beginning of 2022 which you can see here to read a little more about that and see some of our first time together in person.

The day started pretty simple with us being greeted as we walked up by Rebecca who was doing makeup in one of the spare rooms at the front. Once Zach showed up, she went to a different room and gave him that room so he hid out on the porch to keep from seeing her. Before long, they were both dressed and so we setup to do a first look with Rebecca’s Dad. In that moment you could see so much pride from him in his baby and his last daughter being married which made it a super sweet moment for us to see knowing that. We then hid Rebecca just around the corner while I put a mic on Zach and brought him out to get in place without seeing her. Then she came up to see him by the gazebo and shared a super sweet moment that we could tell slowly helped set in the reality of the moment and what was about to happen as they got a little more emotional near the end. Once they let us know they were ready for more photos, we did some with just the two of them around the gazebo there and then most of the family was already there so we hopped right into formal photos before taking them around the property more for other photos of just the two of them. Once we finished all of their photos, it was then time for the ceremony led by a family pastor who preaches just down the road in Harlem. They said their vows and had some advice and inspiration from the officiant before exchanging rings and sealing the deal with a kiss. Once they exited the ceremony and everyone was over at the reception, Rebecca bustled her dress and switched her shoes then we got ready for their entrance into the reception.

They entered into the reception and made their way to the dancefloor for their first dance which was followed by everyone eating their dinner. Once everyone was finishing up dinner and having fun talking with everyone else, they prepared to do toasts by the sweetheart table right after we did their cake cutting. The speeches shared a little insight into the relationships they share with their friends and each other. From here, it was pretty much an open dance floor the rest of the night until it was time to do a fake exit with glow sticks outside which was beautiful and everyone enjoyed the glowsticks enough to take them back inside with them for the rest of the dancing which is how our night ended. Rebecca and a few of her girls danced for a while then they decided to start packing up so we said goodbye as Zach got one more cupcake and we got to congratulate them again on our way out. They’re such a sweet couple and seem to have a ton of good family and friends that love them so very much, I know they will have a great future together and we’re excited for what adventures lay ahead!

Jamie & Amber

We had the joy of photographing this sweet couple’s engagement session last Fall which you can see here. That session was at the venue as well as the Bridal session we did more recently for Amber as well which we will hopefully share here soon as well. Enough about that though, this beautiful day took place at Vows & Venue in Harlem, Ga with an amazing team of vendors and the sweetest couple with the sweetest family and friends surrounding them as well.

The day itself was full of a ton of beautiful moments with a bunch of matching pj’s with the girls and babies all over the place which is the way to our heart already. Once we finished details and some photos for the girls in the pjs, it was time for Amber to hop into her dress and at the same time, our third shooter Tom was also with the guys and we made sure to say hey while the girls were all getting dressed as well as photographing and filming some of the venue space. Amber was finished getting into her beautiful dress so we setup for the first looks with her girls, her Dad and then her Brother which all three had such completely different emotions but they were all beautiful and special. Before we knew it, it was time for them to tie the knot so we made our way out and setup everything we needed and mic’d Jamie up. The joy was all over Jamie when he saw his Bride. It was a beautiful ceremony with a gorgeous field as the backdrop as well as the arbor that Jamie built giving such a nice personal touch which we took advantage of as soon as they said their I do’s and sealed it all with a kiss. We started with family photos and then wedding party photos then ended with just the two newly weds first at the arbor then out into the field behind.

Then it was reception time and guests were finishing up enjoying cocktail hour and some of the photobooth from our friends at Southeastern exposure just outside of the barn. It started with a roaring crowd cheering the entire wedding party and Bride and Groom into their first dance as well as the Father-Daughter and Mother-Son dances. From there we did the cake cutting and they enjoyed their first custom mixed drink really quick after but from there, we start to really get some plot twists into the mix. They did the bouquet and garter tosses and danced a little, then all of the sudden a table is pulled into the middle of the dance floor for a wedding party edition of flip cup where the girls got to enjoy a devastating victory of the guys. That was also followed up shortly by the shoe game and then a Bride and Groom dance off with cash prizes being thrown at them judged by the cheering of their loved ones. Then it was an open dance floor most of the rest of the night and some people retreated to keep score of the Georgia game that night while others were also enjoying some slow dancing as couples including the private dance for Jamie and Amber before the exit. Then they actually did a fake exit with all I can explain as streamer but also with a hint of like teepeeing the couple since you had to throw them a little but, they looked so cool and all stayed attached so it was a quick and easy clean up so 10/10 would recommend. Everyone then made their way back in slowly to the dance floor and one of the Jr. Bridesmaids gifted Jamie and Amber with the baseball from the game where Jamie proposed to Amber which was so special and Jamie legitimately looked shocked and they loved the gift which, outside of more dancing and cute baby stuff, was the last major event of the night for us so, as things were winding down, we hugged Amber and congratulated them again! They’re such a great couple and I know they have such a great future ahead of them and we’re super excited to see what lies ahead for them!

Andrew & Erin

So, where to begin? This was one of the most eventful, stunning, fun and smooth paced wedding days all with gorgeous details and venue space surrounding the whole thing. It took place at The Wildflower 301 in Greensboro, GA which is now up high in the list of favorite venues nearby and Rachel from Bentley Wedding Planning was an absolute joy to work with as well and everything seemed to just fall into place with the whole vendor team helping each other. We originally met Andrew and Erin via Zoom back in March of this year and had an absolutely great time hearing about them being Chemistry partners and how it was such a meant to be story. We also heard about the proposal in the North Carolina mountains and how they met up with all of their friends and everyone knew it was happening but they couldn’t find the perfect spot but then at the end of the weekend, he popped the question where the mountains were still in the background and their friends were in the photos too. The more we talked, the more we could tell that we would want to be friends with this couple and once we got into the wedding day more, that only got more obvious with the “Friends” and “How I Met Your Mother'“ references and just amazing stories and spur of the moment decisions that were made.

The wedding day itself started with Morgan, Tom and myself all riding together from our house in Grovetown, GA early in the morning and the plan was to stop at a local place in Greensboro but by the time they opened, that wouldn’t be possible so, we went with the tried and true Chick-Fil-A option in Greensboro then drove onto the venue to eat in the parking lot and make sure we were there early enough to eat and walk around a little to have a feel for the place. After that, we gathered our things and made our way in to say hey to the Bride Erin upstairs and gather details for photos as well. We also had Rachel the wedding planner nearby to help us know where to get some of the other details like the bouquet that was in a fridge and things of that nature and everything came together with some of Morgan’s flat lay magic. We also had our third shooter Tom with the guys and I bounced back and forth between the two some and was getting photo and video of the venue space and then, before we knew it, the guys were ready and the girls were almost ready. We took the guys to the cocktail hour area since it was in shade and had a really cool look and did all of their group and individual photos before sending them back to the “Whiskey Room” aka the groom suite where they did a small toast together. From here, Erin was finishing up the last little bit and once she finished, we did the girls group photos and took them back inside for a few more on the couch and then had them stay there in place for a bit while we got Andrew mic’d up and in place for the first look in the beautiful shaded garden. He was in place and so she made her way out and down the stairs then gave him the tap on the shoulder and we just captured the moment they had as it took place from off in the distance. As they finished and wiped away some tears, we started some of their couples portraits briefly in the garden area then since we were there, they dug up their bourbon (it’s a Southern tradition to bury a bottle before your wedding day around the ceremony site somewhere and it’s supposed to ward off any bad weather on the wedding day) and, it mostly worked! There was some rain later during the reception but, everyone was inside and it stopped way before the exit so I would at least say it was successful but, they said it was delicious as well so, that’s also nice and it was a lot of fun to see Andrew open the cork with his teeth. That moment was almost crashed by Erin’s Step Dad Chris seeing her too soon rushing over to where we were and we managed to stop him and send him back so we could set it up on the porch and then have Erin come up behind him there as well and you could tell that he loves her so much. We then, slipped Erin back inside the main house while waiting on her Dad to get into place for the first look and once he was mic’d and in place, we brought her outside to him one more time and they shared a sweet moment by the fountain. That moment was followed by the ring bearer showing up in probably one of the best getups I have seen for a ring bearer then, with some guests starting to show up, we had some extra time and the guys were in the reception area playing Super Smash Bros by the bar (side note, I believe Andrew won which is only right on his wedding day, right?) from here, I went on to the ceremony area to setup our ceremony camera on the tripod figure out any last minute plans for ceremony coverage while Morgan and Tom stuck around the front porch for a quick first look with Andrew and his Mom. Then there was a bit of down time for everyone to get lined up and guests to arrive. Once everyone was in their seats, Rachel started lining up the family and wedding party and they all entered and made their way down the aisle to their places then standing as Erin and her Father came down with a beautiful string version of Sam Smith’s “Stay with Me” and I am pretty sure that literally everyone at least rubbed their eye or sniffled once during that moment but you can see the photos of what all happened on stage there and we’re excited for them to be able to go back and see the ceremony film later too of that entire moment. We then got to enjoy the ceremony and just capturing different angles while the Bridesmaid/Officiant Katie not only performed everything needed for the ceremony but, got to share some of the fun stories only a super close friend to both of them would be able to have making for a super personal and joyful ceremony. After they said their I do’s and sealed it with a kiss, we also had them stop and kiss at the top of the aisle as well and then as we’re photographing everyone else coming up, I looked over my shoulder and they were having a sweet moment of just holding each other. Once everyone had made their way out, we had Tom go cover some of cocktail hour while we did family formals, wedding party and couple’s portraits again. As we were finishing up couple’s portraits, their sweet pup showed up as well so we got a few photos in before they needed to get ready for reception.

Now, the entrances at the reception were just hilarious and the photos speak for themselves. Once everyone made their way up onto the platform where the dancing takes place, the newlyweds did their first dance and Erin also danced with both her Dad and Step Dad. Then, the toasts and dinner which there were actually quite a few speeches given with I believe two of them being the planned ones seen in the photos here but a bunch of others took place as well including the ring bearer giving the cutest toast ever. Everyone then ate some delicious food from the in house Chef at the Wildflower 301 and then after everyone was finishing up eating, Erin a few of her girls disappeared and sent for us. Once I got upstairs, I found out the secret plan to cut off Erin’s hair because she loves having short hair but always wanted long hair for her wedding. Also, a note that her sister did her hair for the wedding as well as cut her hair with no experience or training in that but if you look at what she did with her hair earlier in the day, it definitely seemed like she had some experience. The following photos after that were the Groom’s reaction since he had no idea what was happening so we had him up on the stage so they could give their couple’s speech as far as he knew but then she came in the door and you see his reaction. They then gave their speech and then Andrew and his Mom had their Mother-Son dance. From there, we went straight over to the cake cutting then it broke off into open dance floor, drinks and a lot of fun conversations until there came a moment where we noticed that Erin was going back behind the bar and, come to find out, she used to be a bar tender in Atlanta and wanted to make her own old fashioned for the fun of it. Once they finished the drinks and got back on the dance floor, the dance floor was pretty full for the rest of the night and they even convinced us and Rachel to go out and dance with them at some point during the night and there were a ton of fun moments that will better be explore in the wedding film later during the dancing but, we eventually came around to their last dance in privacy while everyone else was getting ready for the sparkler exit outside and with it being wet, we decided to do it right outside of the reception building on the normal concrete to be sure no one slipped on the stone path and it worked out beautifully. We then got to congratulate them one more time and talk for a bit before heading to pack up and leave and they are just genuinely great people. We cannot wait to see what the future holds for Mr. and Mrs. Calkins!

Chris & Helena

Right off the bat, I just want to say that if anyone ever told you that you can’t have a beautiful wedding in your back yard or at a courthouse, it can totally be done! Plus, it makes for a really great Thursday to be surrounded by your favorite people with the comfort of home while also just having the best BBQ brought from one of their favorite places in Statesboro called “I hope you like it”. The wedding day itself took place between their home and the Appling Courthouse’s Gazebo.

The day started with us following gps to a nonexistent road to their house and then I figured it out going another way and then have Chris meet us outside letting us know we were in the right place. Once we were inside, we got to meet their boys and the dogs of honor as well as get a good layout of where everything was going on in the back yard. From there, we gathered details and did some photos which turned out so elegant and we loved the pops of Yellow so much and then headed back inside as Chris and Helena got ready pretty quickly and then before we knew it, everyone started showing up at their house. We started doing some of the couples portraits early then got to witness everyone meeting and greeting as they showed up and then we did family photos with everyone just before making our way to the courthouse. Once we all made it there, we walked up the hill to the courthouse to get everything going then everyone met up at the gazebo outside to gather around during the ceremony. They said their I do’s and signed the marriage license then we did a few more family photos before everyone leaving to go back to the house while we did a few couples portraits around the courthouse area. Before long, we all hopped right back into our cars and went back across I-20 to their house in Harlem where a few more things were being placed before dinner and all of the kids were playing soccer or chasing balls that flew out of the fence from another game that I have no idea what to call it, but it was cool and entertained everyone for a long time with a sticky inflatable backboard thing. Enough about that though, a few dances from family members enjoying themselves later and it was time to eat. The food from “I hope you like it” blessed our souls and it was probably some of the best BBQ we’ve had, and we have had a lot of BBQ. Really, the night besides some playful dancing, cake cutting, more soccer and opening gifts, the night was more just about spending time together for the family and friends so it was nice. At one point, Helena took her friends to show them the new gym rack setup in the garage with a huge smile on her face and then there was a hunt where we were all walking around looking for a family members wedding ring in the grass and it turned out it was in his pocket after about 15 minutes of searching. That was about where the night ended for us just a little bit after that, we said bye to everyone and headed home but, it really was just an amazing way to spend a Thursday and we’re so excited to see what the future holds for the newlyweds!
